Content marketing, like every other aspect of digital marketing, requires carefully crafted strategies that can help businesses establish long-lasting connections with their audience. These connections have to feel natural, and not forced.
This post aims to introduce six new tips for content marketers to use that actually work.
1. Identify your audience:
Before you write even a single word, ask yourself: What particular group of people is this copy targeted at? For example, an entrepreneur looking for posts that share ‘social media carousel ideas’ is different from a trader looking for a post that explains ‘how to run Facebook ads’. Hence, if you try to speak to everyone, you will end up connecting with no one.
So, take time to understand your audience. Know what they need the most, what interests them, and how they talk. Then, you can craft your content to fit their profile.
2. Don’t just pitch, tell your story:
People ALWAYS remember stories. You do not necessarily need to craft fiction, instead tell them a story about a problem your product has solved. Or share a repost if your customer gave you a really great review about how your product has helped them.

3. Avoid jargon:
Big words, and some buzzwords are a turn off for readers (especially for blog posts, and other long-form content). You do not need big words to sell successfully. The best sales are made when the content is easy to understand, and digest. If you need a guide, simply think of how you’d explain something to a friend: relatable, conversational, and simple yet not too casual.

4. Be consistent, don’t spam:
Do not flood your feeds with rushed, low-quality content. Instead, have a scheduled posting day, and stick to it. This way, people would begin to anticipate and look forward to your content. It helps your audience stay engaged with your content.
5. Use high quality photos that relate with your content:
Sometimes, a photo or video can say more than text, or help explain your text better. For example, a video that shows a 60-sec explanation of how to cook a meal, can explain better than simply posting the recipe.
6. Pay close attention:
Good content marketers don’t just write, they observe closely. Pay attention to reactions to your content, and even what competitors are doing. If your current strategy isn’t working, tweak it. Or try out different strategies, monitor, then choose the one that brings the most engagement.
IN SUMMARY
Beyond what is trending, make your content useful, relatable, and real. Whether you’re writing for a website, social media, or email newsletters, make your audience your focus.
Also, whenever you feel like you are probably not as good as you wish to be, remember that even the biggest content marketers started small. Just keep learning, and celebrate the small wins.
